Giving honor, glory and
praise to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, I stand before you today in
memory of my son, Kevin Logan Simpson. First, I would like to
give thanks to this great school and all persons involved in
coordinating this event in honor and memory of my son Kevin. My spirit
tells me that Kevin is looking down from heaven right now and smiling
upon this event that is in memory of him. Even though, I am still very
sad that he is no longer here with us, my spirit and heart is just
filled with happiness and joy that each of you would take such a great
step to remember him in this manner. Kevin was so special to
me and to many of you. Even though his life was short-lived, Kevin
accomplished many great things in his life. Kevin was a kind, gentle,
compassionate and respectful young man. He loved football and his
passion was track and field. I remember how excited and focused he would
be when this event came around every year. There was nothing that would
stop him from attending and participating in this sport. I also remember
how he strived to achieve his goals with the greatest spirit and
enthusiasm that I have ever seen. No matter what Kevin's limitations
were, he never gave up. He always put forth his best effort, and he
excelled far and beyond what was expected of him. What does this remind
you of? Well, this reminds me of how Kevin soared just like and EAGLE.! Kevin left us all with
great memories and qualities that we should cherish each and everyday.
Therefore, this day I encourage each of you to take a lesson from him.
No matter what binds you or no matter what your limitations are, always
put God first in your life, always put forth your best effort, and never
give up! Let your heart and spirit be your guide and try to go far and
beyond your goals and what is expected of you .... and you too, will
soar like an EAGLE! May God bless each of you
and may God bless this great event! Sherry Simpson, Kevin Logan - A Very Special Person SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS
I remember the bus rides with Kevin to meets and rides to his
house. I remember Kevin always smiling when team members would go
visit him at work. I remember Kevin always willing to learn and do his
best at every practice and meet. I remember Kevin for his diligence and
his hope to spread that to others. Kevin will always be remembered as an
Eastside Eagle!
I remember his sensitivity and kindheartedness to others. He never was
of greed or selfishness. I also remember his million dollar smile. Event Information Entry Fee: Deadline: Wednesday,

"That's what I'm talking about!" - Kevin Logan
In Memory of Kevin Logan Simpson
Kevin's Mother
By Ed Boehmke, meet director
At the end of last spring's track season, I sat down and wrote a few words to say about a special young man for our Most Valuable team member. The award was given to Kevin Logan. I had the honor of coaching Kevin on the track team for four years. He was selected for the most valuable award because of the type of young man he was, not by the number of points he scored or by his performances on the track.
Kevin was committed to the team. He was at every practice and every meet. He would make sure I knew of the few conflicts that came up and would remind me often. Even if he was going to be late, he would tell me before hand or call to apologize and let me know when he would get there. He was very conscientious about his role as member of our team.
He was aware of his abilities, but that never stopped him from wanting to compete. He rarely scored points, but was always willing to jump on the
track or runway and do his very best to try and score. He was disappointed when he didn't meet his expectations or when the team didn't perform like he thought the team was capable of doing. When he did well he didn't brag or strut about, he didn't have to - his huge grin told the world. He had a contagious smile that was as big as the curve of the 200-meters and a heart as large as the whole track.
Kevin was a tremendous joy to be around. He was always happy and positive. He understood his limits but he worked very hard to overcome them. He treated
every person with respect. He was always willing to compete when he had to and was everyone's friend as soon as the race was over. He never said
a bad word about anyone. He was only disappointed when he knew someone didn't try to do his or her best.
He was loyal to the team and his family. He made sure he was up early to walk to work, was always the first one to show up for away meets and if we needed help on the track or runways, Kevin was there to do more than his part. And most of all Kevin was an EAGLE. Enthusiastic, Admirable, Giving, Loving, Eager to please. He loved Eastside and the people there. He was at the football game Friday before his death cheering on the Eagles and encouraging his ex-teammates.
And after a bitter loss, Kevin made a point to tell each guy he played a great game. He would do anything within his power for our school and the people and programs there. I think we could all learn a big lesson from Kevin's life. As a coach at Eastside I love working with kids and I treasured my time with Kevin. I would take a thousand Kevin's with his limited talent, but with his drive to please and excel over any one great athlete with no heart or desire. Kevin Logan made my job as a coach fun and worthwhile. I hope that I made some kind of positive impact on his brief life; because I know he made a big impact on mine.
-Ed Boehmke

Unlike most of you, I didn't go to Eastside with Kevin, although my daughter Courtney was proud to graduate with him last June. I was a Shift Manager at McDonald's and had the pleasure of working with Kevin. He was the happiest, hardest work young man I have ever met, I often told him I wished my son could be like him. He truly loved Eastside and all of you. God Bless him.
